GOD-GIVEN POTENTIAL

Potentialpo·ten·tial
Having the capacity to become or develop into something in the future.

Potential is
  • Untapped power
  • Concealed power
  • Dormant ability
  • Hidden strength
Potential is also
  • Who you are — but nobody knows it yet.
  • What you can do — but haven’t done it yet.
  • How far you can go — but haven’t gone yet.
Potential is not
  • A measure of current ability. Someone can have high potential and not exhibit it yet.
  • What you have done. It’s always what you could do but haven’t done yet.
  • Something that remains once expressed. The moment you do something, it ceases to be your potential.

EVERYONE.
HAS.
POTENTIAL.

For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

Ephesians 2:8–10

We are saved by grace to first be someone — a child of God. But we are equally empowered, by that same grace, to do something.

It is easy to shy away from the “do something” aspect, because it relieves us from the responsibility of laboring to build the Kingdom. But the reality is — what we do energizes and strengthens us.

( II )   Warning

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN WE DON’T DO?

When we neglect what God has placed within us, we don’t stay neutral — we begin to weaken.

  1. Spiritual strength comes from obedience

When we stop doing what we were created to do, we grow stagnant.

  2. We become vulnerable to temptation

David’s fall began when he was idle instead of at battle.

  3. Disengagement leads to drift

Many fall away from faith not because they stopped believing, but because they stopped participating.

God did not design us to consume only. He designed us to contribute.

You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.

Psalm 139:16

For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Ephesians 2:10
( III )   Accountability

WE WILL GIVE AN ACCOUNT

A fiery stream issued and came forth from before Him. A thousand thousands ministered to Him; ten thousand times ten thousand stood before Him. The court was seated, and the books were opened.

Daniel 7:10

And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things written in the books.

Revelation 20:12

We will all stand before God and answer for what we did with what He prepared for us — but we do not have to do it in our own ability.

Every believer is uniquely graced by God with abilities beyond their natural capacity. These are not talents we develop on our own, but supernatural abilities imparted by God to equip us for His calling.

Too often, believers struggle because they rely only on natural abilities instead of recognizing and using the grace-given abilities God has imparted.

( IV )   Foundation of Gifts

GRACE & GIFTS

First Corinthians reminds us that spiritual gifts are given by the Spirit for the profit of all. There are diversities of gifts, differences of ministries, diversities of activities — but the same Spirit works all in all.

Spiritual Gifts are gifts that are a result or product of grace, and are empowered by the Spirit.

A Scripture Foundation

1 CORINTHIANS 12:1–11

Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not want you to be ignorant… There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all.

But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one — for the profit of all. To one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit; to another the word of knowledge; to another faith; to another gifts of healings; to another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another different kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues.

But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.

GRACE
EMPOWERS US

Charis is the divine influence upon the heart and its reflection in the life. It is an outward reflection of an inward transformation.

Grace is God’s empowering presence that gives us the ability to go beyond our natural ability — enabling us to operate beyond human limitations and fulfill our God-given purpose.

My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

2 Corinthians 12:9
Charisma

EQUIP US

A charisma is a specific endowment of grace that empowers an individual with a specific ability — a divine capability that God entrusts to you, and one that always exceeds mainstream natural ability.

You can have these gifts at birth, or they can be imparted by God’s Spirit in prayer.

For I long to see you, that I may impart to you some spiritual gift, so that you may be established.

Romans 1:11

Happy is the person who knows their gifts and operates in them… miserable is the one who tries to be somebody else.

THE 24 GIFTS

Each gift is a divine capability that God entrusts to you for the building of His Church. Tap any gift to learn its definition, the ministries where it fits, and the Scripture that describes it.

These gifts are not random. They are given for the glorification of God, the building of His Church, and the expansion of His Kingdom. Each one plays a role, and every person has a part to carry.

Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.

1 Corinthians 12:27
( VI )   Personality

DISCOVER YOUR DISC

Your personality shapes how you serve. The DISC framework reveals four core types — and your unique combination of two becomes the lens through which you lead, relate, and contribute.

DISC · Combinations

YOUR UNIQUE COMBINATION

Most people lead with a primary type and a secondary type. Find the combination that describes you best.

( VII )   Sharpening

OPPORTUNITIES FOR GROWTH

Every personality type has strengths — and edges where God is inviting growth. Tap your type to see practical steps.

( VIII )   Passion

WHERE DO YOU SERVE?

Knowing your personality and your gifts answers what you do. Knowing your passion answers where. Sit with these three questions — let them shape your next step.

01

The People Question
Who am I most interested in serving? Babies, kids, students, or adults?

02

The Passion Question
What would my friends say I’m passionate about?

03

The Dream Question
If I could do anything for God and were guaranteed not to fail, what would I do?

Whatever your passion is, two questions reveal whether it’s aimed in the right direction:

  1. How does it glorify God?

  2. How does it edify others?

Step IV · Empower

YOU ARE THE BODY.

Each one of you is a part of it. Your gifts, your personality, and your passion were not random — they were prepared in advance for what God has called you to do.

Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.
